Raised by a single black mother in the south. Hard Working. Taught to remember who he is and Whose he is.

Who is Blackxneck?

Zachariah Witcher was born in Goldsboro, North Carolina and raised a few miles outside of the city in a very small town named Seven Springs.  For most of his childhood he attended private school at Summit Christian Academy and finished his secondary education at Spring Creek High School.  Throughout his early years, Zachariah attended First Assembly of God church in Goldsboro where his interest for music grew.  At the young age of 5, Zachariah’s musical journey began with drums but he soon switched to the bass guitar in the fifth grade.  His musical influences had not been nailed down yet but the roots were forming.

Throughout middle and high school, Zachariah’s love for music and excellence in performance continued to grow.  He was a member of the worship band at church, switching back and forth between bass, drums and electric guitar when needed.  Zachariah was a member of the Award Winning Spring Creek Marching Gators, a starter on his high school basketball team and a leading member of Spring Creek’s National Honors Society.  Over these formative years music became far more than just a hobby or pastime for Zachariah. Music had become a language he enjoyed speaking as often as possible.  A language he had had not been formally taught, but had gathered, bits and pieces along the way, from his musical surroundings and the influence of his friends and peers.  After graduating high school, in 2009, he went on to study the language of music at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. Zachariah graduated in May of 2013 earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Commercial Music.

Since graduation, Zachariah has been blessed to work exclusively as a freelance musician in Nashville.  He has recorded on countless albums, EPs, singles and demos.  He has toured the entire continental United States playing with multiple artists ranging genres from country and pop to hardcore punk and metal.  Zachariah has been privileged to play with many talented artists including Keb Mo, Brett Eldridge, Yebba, Jessy Wilson, The New Respects, Bailey Bryan, Kassi Ashton, Mike Hicks, Davie, Katie Pruitt, The Sisterhood Band, Jess Nolan, Jonny P, Orthodox, Goodbye June and many more.  He has opened for artists such as Al Green, The Black Keys, Knocked Loose, Lizzo, Jordan Davis, Gary Clark Jr, The Beautiful Ones, Rotting Out, PJ Morton, Marc Broussard, Maren Morris, Judah and The Lion, Lady Antebellum and many others.  In addition to touring and filling his schedule with freelance work in Nashville, Zachariah has two bands of his own, Dynamo and FM, which are both currently working on releasing new music in the near future.  Zachariah is known to often credit his musical gift to God and is a member at Nashville Life Church where he serves on the worship team with Grammy Award winning members Dwan Hill and Alvin Love.  In the little bit of spare time he does have, Zachariah enjoys a good pizza and hanging out with his friends around the dinner table or at local concerts.
